Sociological Imagination Essay- DUE TOMORROW MORNING

    
You will be required to submit a 4-6 page paper. The late policy is the same for assignments. Papers must be handed in class, technological problems will not be an excuse and I will not accept e-mailed papers unless permission is given. If there are any extenuation problems, I may accept an e-mailed paper, but we need to discuss it ahead of time. All papers must be typed, double-spaced and stapled. Margins should be one inch around and the font should be no greater than size 12, Times Roman. Good grammar, proper documentation, a clear thesis relevant to the body of the paper, a persuasive argument, and a well-thought conclusion are the hallmarks of a good paper, and will be graded accordingly. I will give out a separate handout

Our decisions do not simply result from what philosophers call “free will.” Sociology teaches us that the social world guides our life choices in much the same way that the physical world guides influence our choice of clothing or the type of food we feel like eating. C. Wright Mills pointed to the power of what he called the sociological imagination to help us understand everyday events. As he saw it, society—not people’s personal failings—is the main cause of poverty and other social problems. 
For this assignment explain how a personal problem can be caused by a larger social issue or vice versa.  It can be a problem that you, a friend or family member have experienced. 
1. Describe the situation, putting both the personal problem and the larger social issue in boldface.
2. Then explain the relationship in terms of cause and effect.  
3. Limit your response to a 4-6 double spaced page essay.
