PhD Thesis

A custom PhD thesis is not much different than the format followed by a formal research dissertation or study report. However, the former requires more extensive research and evaluation for each and every element of the subject matter picked up for the thesis.

A well to do PhD thesis begins from submitting a written proposal to your supervisor. The length of the proposal could vary depending upon the ranking of details as demanded by your supervisor or the subject lines discussed in the PhD proposal. Now comes, the body of the proposal as in what necessary elements it should be composed of.

The basic element of the PhD proposal would be how you come up to hypothesize your research question. This the starting point for, the timely completion of your research study. Often, the background work is done beforehand by the researcher, so as to have a view in which direction he would continue with his/her study and how will he shape up and establish the necessary facts and figures to prove his point.

Now comes, the second stage of actually beginning over the PhD thesis once your research proposal is approved. The first chapter is based on the introduction of the topic. Here you defend the reasons for taking up and choosing a certain topic for your research. In the introductory chapter of a PhD thesis, the researcher is supposed to discuss the previous work done in the same arena and justify his topic, as in what new achievement he is seeking to achieve in terms of his research statement and the predicted results.

The second chapter is composed of the review of literature, where you briefly summarize the works of other author related to the same subject matter. These works should be of high quality i.e. based on articles from authenticated journals and books. Although, the review of literature chapter does not, directly relate to the actual work done in the PhD thesis. However it clears up the mind of the researcher as in what direction he is so to follow while working on his research study.

The third chapter includes the detailed discussion of the research question that comprises the PhD thesis statement. It would further include the ‘Statement of the Problem’, ‘Creation of Essential Question’ and Hypothesis & Predictions’. This chapter again briefly summarizes the study and evaluation the researcher is attempting to arrive at in addition to the exacting statement of his research question.

The fourth chapter of the PhD thesis discusses in detail the methodology used in the research study of PhD thesis. This chapter greatly differs from one thesis to another depending upon whether it is a scientific technique, a comparative analysis, regression analysis, use of some other academic analytical technique etc. Generally speaking, this chapter would include the variables used in the study and their proper definition and explanation. Also it would discuss in detail if any of the discussed variables is constructed by the author him/herself for the study, because that would then require proper justification on the derivation or the theory behind its construction.

The fifth chapter deals with, the examination of the study conducted so far and discusses the results obtained by the application of the specific methodology.

The next chapter would discuss the in detail the results and will evaluate them on the basis of either previous references or by providing some justification at his, own dispense. This chapter also deals with the limitations of the study. It means those factors that the study failed to address or incorporate. Other than that, the limitations section could involve the specifics that the research of the author was not successful in simultaneously addressing because of the data set and the variables specification.

The second last chapter would include the critical analysis, which would highlight the things which the research study left on and then would discuss the areas that are open for further research and study.

The last chapter necessarily is the concluding chapter which, sums up the results and discussions along with their reflections and interpretations for the study.
