SCMT 322 – Business Logistics Management Assignment

– Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) This assignment provides an opportunity to be creative and personal, and also to learn a bit more about the concept of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) as it relates to product distribution (and, perhaps, product re-collection). Choose one of the following formats/topics: • Write an editorial (opinion piece) for the Edmonton Journal. This isn’t to simply be a “report”, but rather it is an opinion piece that takes a clear position and is well-informed and convincing. The following are examples (on different topics). You will need to keep it to less than 500 words, so be sure to make sure that every sentence has meaning and contributes to your message. The topic of the editorial is: o Meal kit companies (e.g. HelloFresh, ChefsPlate) tout the environmental benefits of their product/service based on the reduction in food waste that results from using their services. Do you feel that these producers take adequate responsibility for their product/service from an environmental-impact perspective? • Create an infographic (hand-drawn or digital) that could be used to educate the public about a topic from below. Here are some examples about what infographics are. Choose one of the following for the topic: o Section 5.4 of the BC Major Appliances document (p. 27) “provides a visual depiction of the hierarchical or pyramidal flow of EoL major appliances from point of collection through to end markets”. Based on our more in-depth studying of the parties involved, provide a better visual depiction (i.e., a more engaging and informative infographic). o Meal kit companies (e.g. HelloFresh, ChefsPlate) tout the environmental benefits of their product/service based on the reduction in food waste that results from using their services. However, there may be more to consider in terms of whether they take adequate responsibility for their product/service from an environmental-impact perspective. Create an infographic that shows environmental considerations of meal kit distribution and consumption. Submit: On Blackboard by 11:00 p.m. on Thursday Nov 29th, or by hard-copy in the “drop box”. Grading: Your piece should be: • personal and original (your own words and thoughts), but should at the same time be • informed (i.e., demonstrates a solid understanding of the subject matter), and it must be • clear and • engaging
