Responsibility of Inventions

Inventions have shaped the growth of civilization since the beginning of time, but can an invention actually do more harm than good? Who is at fault? Should those who came up with the ideas be to blame? In answer to the first question, yes. Take gunpowder as an example; gunpowder was first used in China for entertainment, such as fireworks (Pyro universe, History of fireworks). However, when the invention went into the wrong hands, it became a weapon, which made it do more harm than good. It is not those who came up with the idea who are to blame, it is the people that use it in a deleterious way in human society.
Inventions allow people to do less work, saving time and energy. One of the greatest inventions is the automobile. People these days cannot live a normal life without a car. It is correct that this invention brings people comfort, but it also causes air pollution. Air pollution is the main contributor of global warming, and transportation vehicles are the second greatest cause of it (Planetsave). But scientists are not responsible for the consequences of their invention, because people still use cars knowing that it causes air pollution (Tutorvista, Causes of pollution).
Another example is gunpowder. Gunpowder was first used in China for entertainment such as fireworks. However, the application of this product was tainted by Europeans. Once they discovered the product, due to their different way of thinking, they thought that gunpowder was meant to be used as a means of weaponry. Europeans soon produced many weapons, which began a new era of violence. Scientists are not responsible for gun violence, but it is the fault of the criminals who possess weapons (Pyro universe, History of fireworks). Global warming is a worldwide issue.

Its effect on the human race is getting worse with people constantly polluting the Earth. Usually the Earth can clean the air by itself, but air pollution has grown to such a massive scale that nature cannot compensate (Planetsave). As the world’s population is increasing at an alarming rate, there are more and more people demanding cars. Furthermore, the building of power plants in order to produce electricity is becoming an issue as well. Carbon dioxide released from burning coal is an extremely harmful gas for the human body and it causes the thinning of the ozone layer.
People use fossil fuels because of their addiction to the different kinds of inventions the scientists made, like cars and electronic devices (Tutorvista, Causes of pollution). Scientists, or the inventors, have no connection with the consequences of their inventions; it is the people that use their inventions who are culpable. These people are responsible, not the scientists, because these people were never forced to use the inventions. In other words, humankind itself is destroying the Earth, and it is their responsibility, not anyone else’s. Global warming is not a conqueror to kneel before – but a challenge to rise to.
A challenge we must rise to. ” (Brainy quotes, Global warming) Of the many inventions used in the world, many of them are beneficial and some of them not. Scientists should invent tools that will help the environment, like solar panels and wind power generators. Global warming didn’t happen overnight. It is people who have polluted the Earth. Still, many people have no idea of the seriousness of global warming. The first step in the fight against global warming is making people aware of the seriousness of this problem.
If there is a way in, then there is a way out. If people started global warming, then there will definitely be a way to stop it. To say we should blame those who think up inventions is a waste of breath. People make choices and use tools and technology for good and bad. Inventions outlast the inventor, and as time passes, inventions are used in new ways. It is the responsibility of those who use inventions to use inventions responsibly. There is only one solution: educate, educate, educate.
