 Below is a student initial post and I need you to respond to this question base on student post.  In your response, ask at least two questions that your colleague’s post raised for you. 

When I reflect upon the students that I teach I realize I have very little in common with them collectively.  My students are middle school students, mostly male, mostly Hispanic or African american and most do not enjoy math. I our worlds are very different.  This affects my teaching because I want them to be engaged in their learning, so I need to make math relevant to them or interesting for them.  It impacts our interactions because we have very little in common so I need to make an effort to understand them on some level for there to be a connection.  
My big “aha” is actually thinking about my students and how very different they are from me based on the diversity worksheet.  I also realize that most people have probably at some time felt as if they did not belong for whatever reason.  If I think back to one of those times it helps me remember that everyone wants to feel wanted, needed and valued which is really the basics of inclusion.

What does this mean? Does America live up to this ideology?
