As written, my problem statement is not quite as informative as it could be. I have to write what kind of lack you will be discussing. Lack of what? Belonging to what? But I have the same questions about self and belonging. What I mean by self? Because this adds a lot of information, I would like to split the problem statement into two sentences, so it might look something like this:
As the title of the thesis shows, this paper will examine Auster’s novels from a postmoderist perspective, focusing on [some word that sums up all three concepts (pyschological understandings?)]. These [whatever your sum up word is] are lack of any transcendental signifier, self as non stable and everchanging[something] transient fragmented, and the idea of belonging to X.
