Discussion 1: Social Entrepreneurship

The term social entrepreneurship has been around since the ’90s, so it is relatively new. However, more recently it is receiving greater attention. Sanjit “Bunker” Roy is an example. He is an Indian social activist and entrepreneur. He has aided people in Asia and Africa in learning technical skills and providing solar power in their villages. He founded Barefoot College, specializing in teaching illiterate women from poor villages. Barefoot College provides women with the opportunities to become doctors, engineers, and architects. Scott Harrison is another example of someone who started an organization called Charity: Water. So far, clean drinking water has been provided to over a million people in 17 different countries by his organization.
To prepare for this Discussion, consider other organizations that could be considered social entrepreneurships.
