Welcome to week 15 of your course. In this discussion question you have the opportunity to be creative and to relate what you have learned to your professional lives. The topic chosen for the next CLA assignment is the Importance of Values and Ethics in Development of an Organization. Several factors play a pivotal role in ensuring progress and development of an organization and values and ethics are the primary factors behind this development. Some important aspects that will be discussed in the assignment for this topic include the definition of values, their significance, working of values within an organization and role played by the leadership in erecting these values high.
To define values in the simplest manner this definition suffices the need. According to it value is “An enduring belief that a specific mode of conduct or end-state of existence is personally or socially preferable to an opposite or converse mode of conduct or end-state of existence.” (Rokeach, 1973, p. 5)?
Keeping this definition in mind, there a number of aspects in which values can be incorporated within an organization, for example, equality, working hours, minimum wages and a lot more. In order to implement these values equally, the leadership of the organization is brought to task. It is the leadership of the country which ensures that the values designated for the organization actually stand in favor of the organization. Moreover, the implementation of values via different leadership styles lead to witnessing of quicker and faster results of the values.
In short, values play an important role in making an organization move forward and gain a competitive edge over its competitors.

I would like to relate my learning outcomes of this course to my current professional life, and to mention the ways in which I have made mistakes, learned, succeeded and outgrown as a better professional compared to before doing this course. I have learned that organizational development is a key to growth for companies, especially if talking about the field and industry I am in. I am a sales manager in a feature management company, being on the SaaS platform, where it is very important for every company, and specifically, every individual as a young company, we are going through a lot of changes in the organization.
Speaking specifically about the CLOs of this module, I have learned how to proactively manage those who did/do not do well in my team. For example, there was a person I hired about 6 months ago, who did not perform and top it off, his attitude towards work was not right. No positivity and motivation came from him. I eventually had several discussions with him, and the top management, to tackle this issue, and finally had to take the decision of firing him, which was not something I wanted him to do. I wanted him to grow and learn from his mistakes, as he was still new and fresh into his career in the industry. After this, I have had a couple more cases where I had similar issues with some of my team members, however, by this stage I learned how to tackle the issues like a leader, a manager and someone who can take effective decisions for my team. This is very important to be able to continuously motivate team members and other colleagues, so they remain content and satisfied at the workplace. Since, then I give constant employee recognition, gift certificates and also conduct special events after each quarter, when we hit out goals, like taking them for go-karting, going to watch a match or treating them for a lunch with the team.
A high level of customer satisfaction is something vital I learned from this course, and how we have a customer success team to keep our current clients motivated and increase business continuously. Especially the industry I am working in is quite niche and still growing very rapidly, it is important to be sustainable and outweigh competitors by having a strong pricing model and attending our customers in the best way possible. My decision making is grown stronger, where I can now effectively take more decisions for my team, with confidence and leadership. It is also a great benefit in our company, as it is a growing startup, hence a lot of decisions are taken by the individual managers and not by a consensus of managers.

My most positive experience so far is the fact that I have been able to build relationships and socialize. Not only does socializing helps to adapt to the organizational culture, it also helps to build a network of professionals that become useful as one’s career advances. This should however not be limited to fellow interns but with other coworkers in the team as well as the organization at large. Kram (1988), opined that relationships develop slowly over time, and gradually, I have been able to build a good network of professional relationships with both peers and supervisors and this I know is helping me to develop within and outside the job.
My least positive experience however lies in the transfers I experienced from three different locations within the space of six months. Of course, the transfers were due to business needs, but personally I would say it was quite discomforting have to change locations and adapt to new environments. I actually coped and adapted well in all of these transfers especially with the support of my market leader, but it would have been more ideal if I was able to at least spend a year in a location before having to move. In the opinion of Cooper-Thomas, Anderson and Cash (2012), the adjustment of newcomers to their new workplace is of utmost importance for themselves, peers and organizations.

If I were responsible for managing and organization, one main factor that I would focus is on is making sure we have a strong corporate culture. It would be a company where we actual abide to the mission, goals, and company values. Lastly, there would also be great emphasis on human capital being if one or not, the most important company asset.
