Marriott International was founded by J. Willard and Alice Marriott in 1927.The core values that Marriott embrace are putting people first, pursue excellence, embrace changes, act with integrity and lastly, serve our world.(“Marriott International, Inc.”) These values have been established in their company and helped them in the growth of their company.

One of the main problems to the issue of low wages and job security is that Marriott tends to keep a large pool of workers for low-level hourly jobs who can be scheduled for short shifts at times of peak demand. With technologies like computerized scheduling systems and forecasting tools, Marriott could calibrate work schedules by the hour through the prediction of sales. Hence, the employees are called in or sent home as needed. As a result, these employees’ income fall short due to the unstable schedules with short hours. This situation is more prevalent in the group of African-American and Latino workers compared to their white colleagues despite wanting stable full-time employment, this could also possibly lead to the issue of racism. With the different needs and wants that employees demand, it is a challenge for Marriott International to manage its people.
