An one dimensional array is a list. A list of variables. All those variables have the same name, but they’re differentiated by their subscript, or index. In the problem below, for example, there is an array called “scores.” It contains six elements. Each element has a subscript. The values are as follows:
scores[0] = 100.00
scores[1] = 100.00
scores[2] = 76.00
scores[3] = 97.00
scores[4] = 72.00
scores[5] = 86.7
Notice the subscripts are “zero based,” that is, the first one is subscript zero, and so on.
If we use these in a program to store grades, we can also use a character array to store the string “ECPI University.” This program uses a “for” loop to loop through the array elements, and calculate the average grade.
