Motivational Issues Of Dominos Pizza Business Essay

Motivational Issues Of Dominos Pizza Business Essay:I have chosen Dominos Pizza for my assignment in 636 Applied Management which is located on 5/205 Queen Street Auckland, Auckland City. The main purpose I chose this company is because a friend of mine works there as a part-time. This factor will allow me to have the access to all the resources to complete the entire assignment effectively and make it easier to analyze. The company is also very close from where is stay so that will help me to get to the company faster and that means less time consumed in travelling. As it is close so I can go on foot and this would save transport cost.

The major problem which I have identified in this branch of Domino`s Pizza company is lack of motivation and this problem is based Maslows Hierarchy of Needs. They maybe a problem of customer service and the resources are not being allocated efficiently. There is no proper management of employees and there might be exploitation of workers. As there is more tasks to be performed compared to amount of people working and employees are not given sufficient breaks. As the company is a fast food restaurant, this means delivery of pizza should be quick and of high quality. The toppings of the pizza are very few; as it is a restaurant the working conditions and health safety issues are not been taken in consideration.

They only employee part-time employees such as international students and this company has 21 workers having different shifts and paid on hour basis. They have a very small working area according to the demand of the customer. During rush hours there are so many customers and because of under-staffing they are not able to deliver the pizza at the right time. This makes customers wait for a long time and some customers also go to another restaurant because of the long queue.

I believe the main problem is lack of motivation because their basic needs may not be satisfied. All the stages of Maslows Hierarchy of Needs should be satisfied to keep them motivated.

I mean to provide solutions to some of the problems which I have identified in Domino`s Pizza:

To ensure that employees get regular breaks.

They should train the employees and give them new challenges to keep them motivated.

To decrease the costs they should reduce wastages.

The employees should be given bonuses.

They should recognize the employee for his or her work well done.

The specific problem identification with rationale.

I will be undertaking these research questions and below are few questions I would follow:

Are the employees of Domino`s Pizza motivated or de-motivated?

What are the factor affecting their motivational level?

What are the motivation problem in Domino`s Pizza?

Do the employees have good time management skills?

How can we motivate or improve the motivational of the employees of Domino`s Pizza?

This research will provide a few recommendations and guidelines so that it could be beneficial in the training and development process.

The relevance of the business problem which maybe lack of motivation could be solved through this research. This could also increase the productivity of the company and become more efficiently. If they have any time management issues; then that issue could be amended by my research result. This could also give solutions of keeping the organizations employees efficient and this means less resources wasted and all the resources will be allocated.

The organization will get an idea of how to motivate the employees. This means they will find out the motivation factor. This will help to improve your output and that will increase your profit as the expenses reduced. This research will help the managers to better understand their employees and makes it easy for managing the workers more efficiently.

There are some few drawbacks with this project research:

Managers would not be bothered about motivating their staff and they avoid talking about it. If the research could be reproducible and give different results unless if you change the brand from Domino`s Pizza to its competitor such as Pizza Hut then that could be a drawback of the research. Limited employees may be a issue as you need a certain amount of employee to do this research. Time limitation may be bringing an uncertain issue as you have to finish the research in certain of time. This facto could negatively affect the results of the research.

Research methods and process.

I will be using both qualitative and quantitative research. In the qualitative research I will need about the problem for various sources of different types to learn or study the social and cultural phenomenal. Where as in quantitative research I will conduct a survey and that will develop natural phenomena. This means the data will be in the form of word, picture, numbers and statistics.

There are various types of problem solving techniques. This includes 5 Why`s Analysis, Cause and effect diagrams/ Fishbone diagrams, SWOT Analysis and Michael Porters Five Forces. According to project research the most suitable problem solving technique is the Cause and effect diagram / Fishbone diagram. I am using this technique because it uses an orderly, easy-to-read format to diagram cause-and-effect relationships; it determines the root cause of thee problem and indicates possible causes of variation in a process.

Cause and Effect Diagram:

The research instruments I am going to use are as follows:

Questionnaires – To get a vast amount of information in a small period of time, by giving all the employees a set of questions to be answered.

Advantage: It’s an inexpensive way of collecting information and can collect large amount of information.

Disadvantage: Might not get careful feedback and you want get full stories.

Interviews – Face to face communication and this is used to get detail information.

Advantages: Can change the question according to the answer and can get full range and depth of information.

Disadvantages: It consumes a lot of time and can be hard to analyze and compare.

Documentation Review – To see how the business works without disturbing its operations by browsing through its old documents which the company already has.

Advantage: Information already exists and very few biases about information.

Disadvantage: It is old information and may not be relevant to your research.

Observation – Gather information by simply watching the employees work and how the business operates.

Advantage: It is less expensive compared to other research methods.

Disadvantage: People may behave differently when they notice that they are being observed or watch.

A project plan including scope, resources and problem solving model to be used.

I will do the project proposal first then next will be the report and finally the critical review of the research. Scope is the boundary or availability in which I have to stay and perform or do the research. This brings up limitation to the research and it cannot be off topic. I will identify the problems and provide the solution in the critical review which is inside the scope. We cannot implement the solutions as it is out of the scope.
