Facebook is an online social network established by Mark Zuckerberg that allows millions of people worldwide to interact and share information. In definition, privacy is a state of seclusion from invasion into one’s private matters. In my opinion Facebook values, the privacy of its user’s as it offers them equitably robust features and set of tools to manage and control their accounts to guard and limit who will access their information.
One feature through which Facebook values its user’s privacy is by the provision privacy guiding principle; which gives details on how Facebook shares and uses their published information with other parties. The guiding principle accentuates the user should make essential measures to safeguard their data. Privacy guiding principle feature also highlights the perils involved if the user does not take the steps.
Another feature that Facebook provides to enhance its user’s privacy is by allowing the user to receive notifications at any time it senses any unusual activity. With this feature, it means that if your Facebook account is logged on from another device apart from your usual personal device, Facebook will send you a notification that your account was logged on from a different device outside your typical device. This feature is helpful especially when you know that you haven’t logged on your account from anywhere else and also you will be notified if someone tries to log on from their device.
Through this feature, the user can even figure the location from which the most recent account activity took place.Facebook has also added a security feature ‘protecting your information’ that appears as a pop-up at the top of their news feed. This feature enables the user to protect their data such that one can manage the third party-apps logged into the account .with the help of this feature the user can also disconnect the third party apps which are of no use.
In conclusion, even though it’s the role of the Facebook to maintain the privacy of its users, the users have a significant role to play to safeguard and limit who has access to their published data in their Facebook accounts by using the various tools and features that Facebook has provided to enhance their privacy.
